Interventional radiologists provide care for women with a diverse group of clinical conditions including obstetric and gynecological care, pelvic pain, infertility, oncology, and cardiovascular diseases.
SIR’s mission in Women’s Health is to educate, guide and support physicians and patients on interventional radiology care related to women’s health conditions. The objective of the Women’s Health Council is to improve understanding of unique considerations related to female-specific health concerns by developing and/or refining minimally invasive options, supporting research in women’s health and improving access to IR care in these related areas. The objectives of the Women’s Health Council are to improve understanding of unique considerations related to health concerns in women by:
- Developing standards of practice for women’s health interventions
- Advocating for awareness of interventional radiology treatment options
- Identifying barriers to and increasing access for interventional radiology care
- Advancing research in women’s health
- Building engagement with other health care stakeholders to improve women’s health
The Women’s Health Clinical Specialty Council is seeking at-large members. Applicants must be SIR members in good standing and should be experts in women’s health, including but not exclusively pelvic pain, fibroids, postpartum hemorrhage, or infertility. Applications are considered confidential. Upon the completion of the application period, current CSC leadership will recommend volunteers for appointment by the SIR Board of Directors. At-large volunteers shall serve a three-year term with the opportunity for a three-year reappointment. Terms begin and end upon the completion of the annual SIR Members’ Business Meeting.
