2026 SIR Delegate to the American Medical Association House of Delegates

Background: SIR is a member organization of the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates (HOD), an organization made up of AMA members who meet twice a year to advance resolutions on healthcare policy. This work helps determine the healthcare policy positions of the AMA; many of these positions help dictate state and federal legislation and regulation. The SIR AMA HOD delegation was recently expanded to 2 primary delegate seats. Each delegate seat is allowed an alternate delegate, a young professional section (YPS) delegate, and a resident and fellow section (RFS) delegate. With two seats, SIR can send as many as eight official delegates to the AMA HOD (but maintains only 2 votes in the HOD).

Current need: SIR is currently seeking up delegates to join the SIR AMA HOD delegation.

• In order to apply to these positions, the SIR member must also be an AMA member and, if applying to a YPS or RFS position, be eligible as such. 
• Delegates must also serve as part of the SIR Government Affairs Committee and be willing to provide periodic reports on AMA HOD activity and resolutions of interest to SIR. The SIR Government Affairs Committee meets every 8 weeks, or 6 times per year.
  
• Interested members should possess some familiarity with healthcare policy, physician reimbursement, scope of practice, and other issues, as well as maintain a familiarity with current news and information as it relates to healthcare issues.
• Responsibilities of the SIR AMA delegation members are to attend the annual AMA HOD meeting held annually in Chicago in June and the Interim HOD meeting held annually in November (the location of which changes year-to-year). These are in-person meetings lasting for three to five days per meeting.
• In addition, the HOD Delegates are expected to attend several virtual meetings of the AMA Radiology Section in the weeks prior to the HOD meetings; these meetings are meant to review the pending resolutions and develop positions on those items ahead of the HOD in-person meeting.
