There is an opportunity for an APDIR or SIR member who has a strong interest in education and big picture initiatives, as well as program director or associate program experience to serve as a representative of APDIR and SIR to the Organization of Program Director Associations (OPDA). This is a 3-year term but may be extended to be multi-year based on interest.
OPDA is a multi-specialty group of educators and associations as ACGME, ABR, AAMC, AMA, ERAS, NRMP, NBME, AACOMM, ECFMG who meet 1-2 times a year for an all-day meeting to hear from the above agencies on specific topics, and in big picture, collaborative, session discussions. The OPDA is a convened group of the Council of Medical Specialty Societies of which SIR is a member.
The purpose of OPDA focuses on three areas:
- Education: specialty society education; physician competency and accountability; new learning models
- Quality: standards and value assessment; innovative care delivery models; equity and disparities
- Professional Identity: professionalism; autonomy; teamwork and workforce; leadership development, including diversity and inclusion
